Actually, I mis-spoke as well. :-) I typed "44RE" in my reply to
Mike but meant to say "42RE" when speaking of the Gen2. I'd never
actually heard of the 44RE until now. The 44RE must have been
introduced in the Gen3 lineup, as my '96 FSM (last year for the Gen2)
shows only 42RE and 46RE.
Annoyingly, my '96 FSM doesn't specify which engines the automatic
transmissions were meant for, though it does have this info for the
standard transmissions. :-P I'm pretty sure though that the
42RE/42RH was for the V6 and 46RE/46RH for the V8. They came from the
A904 and A727 transmissions, respectively. The 44RE must be a "tween"
transmission. :-) I'm guessing there was never a 44RH if it was not
introduced until the Gen3 era when all the transmissions were
electronically shifted.
