Probably had to find 5w40 in conventional oil, sadly. I'm stuck with
conventional as at 139k and a questionable maintenance history I don't
feel like any coke and scuzz sitting blocking a leak from getting eaten
out by all the detergents in synthetic oil... maybe if I felt like
replacing main seals I'd consider it. I'd try 15w50 conventional but I
don't think it would be appropriate around here when it hits -10F or so.

New engines though... 5k on normal oil and straight on synthetic. My
old Neon had it starting at 35k or so when I bought it and the internals
still looked brand new when I pulled the valve cover at ~70k. If the
engine wasn't mooshed into a wad of twisted steel with the intake
manifold smashed into a million pieces it would still be shiny. ;)
