Since the raised lip is still there, I wonder if I can file down some
slots and get a big screwdriver to turn it and break it free.

Or take a punch and nick the side of the tube over enough to get a nail
down in there, then pull the remaining plug out.

Use the brake cleaner to spray down the tube to washout the drill
fragments??
