Hello,

I'm new to the list, and about to join the ranks of Dakota owners.

Had a few questions before I go back to the fleet manager and order
a 96 Dakota SuperSLT (4WD)

Pretty much decided to go with the V8, Auto Trans.
Will add the HD service pkg. and the GWVR 1800# option
as well.

What are opinions on the 4WD protection pkg? Am I better off
hitting the local 4by4 shop and getting some aftermarket
plates installed? I do a lot of rockclimbing, hiking backpacking
and will often take the truck into the desert, on old jeep roads, USFS
roads etc: My 88 Chev. CK1500 has a nice big dent in the oil pan
from a rock that was a little too big to clear. Have heard from some
dealers that the factory installed plates aren't much more than thin
sheet metal? (then again, they were probably trying to steer me
towards the one vehicle they had which DIDN'T have skid plates, but
matched some of my other reqts.

Also, (last question, I promise)

Any experiences with 4 whell ABS? is it worth it? have heard the
brakes on the Dak leave a bit to be desired, will 4 wheel ABS help out
in this regard?

thanks in advance!
