How to Increase fuel mileage

I'm new to this list as of today. I own a 1994 Dodge Dakota with the 5.2,
V8 engine. My average mileage has been 16, until I installed a 3" Gibson
performance exhaust system and a K&N air filter. This increased my mileage
by 1, but boy did it increase the throttle response and power. Has anyone
done something to increase their mileage?
