& On a deserted straight/level highway in Northeastern New Mexico, I floored my
& V6(180 HP)/automatic/4x4 extended cab Dakota. I got it up to 115 MPH (It took
& quite a few minutes to reach max speed, from 100MPH, it was SLOWLY creeping
& up).
& I noticed with overdrive and the 3.9 rear end, it was running about 3600 RPM, I
& stayed at that speed for about five minutes, and the temp guage stayed in its
& normal range. Truck ran smooth, but wind noise was loud.
&
& I would guess the V8 would be good for another 10 mph, so maybe they could do
& 125 mph or so.
Force required to overcome areodynamic resistance goes up as the speed
cubed. If you have 180 HP and went 115 mph, then with 220 HP (stock V8
from '94 or '95) you can go 123 mph. With 250 HP (some Mopar bolt on
goodies) then you can go 128 mph. It would take 399 HP to go 150 mph.
