My Dakota is the third CC product that I have owned with the low fuel warning
light. They all seem to work pretty much the same, the light comes on when the
guage is at the 1/8 mark and when the guage is on E there is always 2 or 3
gallons left in the tank. One of my owners manuals or FSMs even described that
as proper operation (I do not remember which though).

One of may anal qualities is that I always fill the tank myself, I always record
the mileage, fuel consumed, I always reset the trip odometer with each gas up
and I check the mpg at least every other tank full. I develop a good feel for
how far I can go on a tank of gas and how the range is effected by temperature
or driving conditions. As such, I pay more attention to the trip odometer than I
do to the gas guage. With the Dakota I start looking for a gas station at 300
miles, I go about 325 on my Daytona (14 gal tank) and my Ford is 310 (14 gal
also).
