I think my 1995 Dakota has the new non-freon system, and it has worked just
great in hot weather. It cools powerfully and quickly. Don't know about
the mileage because I never owned a pickup before. But one does not buy a
Dakota for its great mileage! I had that before--it was called "Saturn."
Now my mileage is less than 50% of what it used to be!
