I bought my Dakota from a friend and he had problems starting around 70k which
he initially complained to the dealer about. The dealer kept saying they could
find nothing. At 90k the tranny failed, after much bitching CC fixed the tranny
for no cost to my friend. So i suggest you see the dealer ASAP.
Also, $1200-$1800 seems awfully pricey to fix a sub system in the tranny. I
would think you could get a complete tranny from the junk yard for less than
$1000
