R/T package

Hello everyone, I am a new member of the Dakota owners mailing list. I
bought my Dakota in November of 95. It's a 96 Dakota Sport short bed with
the V8, automatic, 3.55 limited slip, heavy duty electrical and cooling
package and a/c. I now have approximately 2100 miles and have had no
problems with the exception of a balky tailgate latch. Sometimes I have to
repeatedly close the tailgate before the latch will catch. I have a
question regarding the R/T package. In the 1996 Mopar Performance catalog
there is a warning for both the high performance computer and the camshaft
(which are part of the R/T package) that you should not do any towing if you
are using them. I suspect the different torque curve for the camshaft would
affect towing, but I think this would only matter when towing heavy loads. I
wouldn't think it would affect towing loads of 2000lbs or less. Can anyone
comment? I like the performance increase the R/T package would give my
Dakota but I don't want to compromise it's utility too much. If I had wanted
an impractical pickup I would have bought a GMC Syclone.
