Yes, taller AND wider works on the stock rims (as in 235/75-15 and
the 4x4 tire sizes), but you have to be careful if you want to go
shorter and wider for better handling and grip on pavement.
Unfortunately, there is no pat answer to how wide/low you can go
on a 6.0 inch rim, because different tire models can accomodate
different minumum rim widths, even in the same tire sizes. Only
manufacturer specs for each model tire can give you the answer.
Like they say, "see your dealer for details".
I happen to run 225/70-15 BFG Comp T/A HR4's which are within mfr.
spec for rim width, SIGNIFICANTLY improve handling and grip over
the stock Goodyears, maintain stock tire height within a percent
or two for speedo/odo accuracy, and are very reasonably priced
(less than the Goodyears) to boot. I highly recommend them. The
only downside is that sider tires will "pull" side-to-side a little more
in rutted roads.
