vs. stock setup... (Again YMMV!!)

This was supposed to be a trip from San Diego to Tucson, but things changes
last minute, sorry!

    Start / Weather / Temp / Winds / Traffic / Steady Speed / Miles / Gal / MPG /
 --------/---------/------/-------/---------/--------------/-------/-----/-----/
  9 pm / Clear / 70's / light / NONE / 70 mph / 165 / 9.5 / 17.4/
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clear San Diego night, light winds in mtn/desert, 70's in San Diego, 85 once
in desert to Yuma. 70 mph on cruise, 5th gear, and 2500 rpm. Driver & 1
passenger, cab high shell, and 50 lbs. of STUFF. My truck has the following
equipment:
    o SLT Club Cab
o Chrome Package w/towing mirrors (electric)
    o Magnum V-8 318
    o 3.90 Sure Grip Differential
    o 5 speed trans.
o Stock SBEC (I removed the Mopar Perf. SBEC for this trip)
o Ultra Flo 3" CAT back exhaust (-+ mpg???)
    o K&N FIPK air cleaner (+-mpg ???)
o BFG 215/75/15 AT Tires (kills 1-2 mpg!)
o Class III 500/5000lbs. hitch (100 lbs. of weight)

The next afternoon I drove back from Yuma to San Diego. Clear, with 25 mph
head wind, air temp 105 F. I drove 70 mph on cruise until the grade up into San
Diego County...where I lowered the speed to 65 mph... Traffic was non-existant.
We had a double bed frame/mattress/head board in back adding about 150 lbs. of
weight.

   Start / Weather / Temp / Winds / Traffic / Steady Speed / Miles / Gal / MPG /
--------/---------/------/-------/---------/--------------/-------/-----/-----/
 6 pm / Clear / 105F / 25mph / NONE / 65-70 mph / 291 / 19.0/ 15.3/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The distance of 291 miles was combined with 65 miles city/highway driving in
Yuma, and the remaining today around town/city/highway/mixed... Headwinds were
about 25 mph from Yuma to the top of the grade up into San Diego County.

It appears that the mileage on this trip is on par with my mileage last year
w/out the FIPK & Ultra Flo exhaust installed running the Goodyear Invectra
tires... Given this, a steady 65 mph SHOULD yield 18 mpg with my current
setup... The 3.90 gearing is a draw back on mileage at speeds about 65 mph from
my experience.

To date with 35200 miles on my truck I have averaged 15.9 mpg since new
(4-4-95).
