I checked out the undrapped pictures at the Dodge home page that was posted
yesterday. I like the looks alot. The nose does look like a RAM but has
additional openings in the bumper and the body appears to have a well
defined feature line along the sides. The interior looks more up to date.
The Dodge press release also stressed the word "compact". I would guess that
since the S-10 and Ranger have gotten larger they want people to consider
the Dakota when they are thinking of those trucks instead of trying to
position it in a seperate category.

It may have been the pictures but the Club Cab seemed to be more
proportioned. Could not tell anything from the pictures on the 4x4 front
suspension layout.

The 24-Jun-96 AutoWeek magazine has a 2 page feature introducing the 1997
Dodge Dakota. An exterior photo is provided of both a regular cab and an
extended cab as well as of the interior. Goals appear to be durability and
value (prices are not expected to go up much). No details on front
suspension (did they drop the torsion setup?). V8 output now 230HP, 300FP.

Interior is wider (72 inches) but marketing is refocusing as "compact" to
avoid all the confusion when it was a midsize. This even though it is almost

as big as some full-size trucks.

It looks like a slightly smaller Ram. It has the big-rig grill and curvy
front end and rear fenders - looks nice! Subject vehicles are not disguised
like the photo at:
