The 318 V8 got a new cam in 1994 (same for Cherokee, Dakota, and Ram) which
lowered the horsepower from 230 to 220 BUT broadened the torque curve (even
raised it a little).
I thought the new Dakota looked good, but it does not (as depicted) have a
step bumper. I wouldn't like that; two cars have already committed suicide
(both totaled) on the rear bumper of my '94 Dakota (I'm on my third stock
bumper courtesy of the insurance company -- got a slightly dented back-up
bumper in my basement).

My '93 was rated at 230 hp. I remember making a point of this to my roommate,
who has a Grand Cherokee - same engine, 220 hp.
The difference between '93 and later models was a less restrictive exhaust.
Might have something to do with truck emissions standards changing too, dunno.
The Mopar Performance SBEC will get you well beyond 230, to more like 250 hp.
The nice thing is that when you tire of paying $1.70/gal for premium ($1.63
last night!) you can just swap again.
