I have a similar product made by RubberMaid. I still make a mess!

I remove the oil filter from the top. It seems to be a left-handed
operation, but if the oil's not too hot, the filter can be lifted
out between the engine and the inner fender. I haven't dropped
any significant amount of oil that can't be caught with the drain
pan using this method.
