MAINT REQD LIGHT

I have a 91 dakota with V-8( non-magnum) and the maint reqd light came
on last night. Anyone know how to reset this, without doing the obvious
and easy solution, cut the wire.

The light came on at 82,444 miles, shouldn't this have come on at a
mileage like 60,000 miles or is it time related? Is this sign that the
odometer was tampered?
