as requested this is the procedure for indexing.
Intermittent missing// In addition to surging and bucking some 3.9 , 5.2
and 5.9 litre Dodge Trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokees may develop a
intermittent miss at operating temp under a light load at about 2000 RPM
due to distributor mis-indexing Here is a procedure to follow to
correct. Backprobe a voltmeter across distributor connector terminals
two (2)- (ground,Black/light blue wire) and three (3)(Sync sensor output
,Tan/yellow or gray).Turn the engine over clockwise (as viewed from
front) by hand till the No#1 piston is at TDC and the timing marks line
up at zero Continue turning slowly until you have lined up the 3.9 v-6
engine to (147 degrees ATDC) and the 5.2/5.9 (17.5 ATDC)mark at zero. Do
not turn the engine counter clock-wise at any time as you will slacken
the timing chain and mess up the adjustment if you pass these marks go
around again. With the ignition switch ON loosen the distributor and
swing it back and forth about the 0volt/5volt transition point on your
voltmeter. Lock the hold-down clamp to 170-230 inch pounds as close as
possible to that voltage transition point. For your information on trucks
with a corporate SBEC computer it is possible to perform this procedure
with a Chrysler DRB-2 od DRB-3 scan tool and the engine running. (Lack
of Power on some 1992-94 3.9-5.2 liter excessive distributor rotor play
(5mm or 3/16 of a inch) can cause surging, bucking, a lack of power and
spark knocking. To eliminate the problem on Dodge trucks replace the
oil-pump drive gear part# 53020546 and the block bushing Part #
