Didn't mean to indicate that the timing should be set by moving the
distributor, just telling what the dealer did and what they told me.

My Dakota's EGR valve went south at about 30K miles, and the mechanic at
the dealer gave me hell for adjusting the timing by rotating the
distributor. When I told him that the only thing I'd done to the
distributor was replace the plug wires he told me, "Oh, sometimes they
come out of the factory that way."

When (another) dealer replaced the distributor body, shaft and bushing and
flashed the stock SBEC the truck ran okay for about a week and started
misfiring again. I then went through the procedure for setting the
distributor and found that the distributor was off by at least 15 to 20
degrees. Took it back to the dealer and they evidently reset the
distributor properly I guess because it's been running fine for about 6 -
7K miles.

Definitely DO NOT try to adjust the timing on a Magnum engine, the SBEC
sets it and if you don't like it your stuck.
