I'll have to agree about the vinyl covers. I have (once again, don't
KILL me) a ford ranger (I'm only 16 and it was a hand-me-down when my
dad got a '92 DAKOTA), and I got a TekSport tonneau cover. I'm trying
to achieve a sort truck 4x4 look, but I use my truck for the yards I
mow. The cover has aluminum rails that clamp down (there is a soft pad
to prevent it from scraping and scratching the bed). It just snaps on,
I can take the cover off, or just unsnap all the snaps and roll it up
and use a dog collar to secure it. It may not be fashionable, but it's
functional!! The only problem, and one I see you may have with it being
winter and all, is that when it's cold, it's a lot harder, if not dang
near impossible, to get the thang snapped back on. It kinda shrinks
when it's cold, so you have to warm it up. I discovered that last
winter, in January, when I was putting it on my truck for the first
time. WE pulled it into the garage, where the almight Dakota was
sleeping before, and put a space heater in the bed to warm it up just so
we could snap it. BUt I have to say, I truly love the cover. I wanted
a hard tonneau, but couldn't afford it jsut yet, so I settled for less.
I paid $180 for mine, but prices will inevitably vary. There is a
TekStyle as well, made by the same company, that is more expensive and I
assume better in some way. I don't know. Just telling my experiences.
