I wanted to show my wife where my friend and I ride motorcycles this weekend,
so I took my truck out, and drove up the local fireroads through the mountains. I
knew that some of the roads were somewhat 'nasty' but thought "Heck, I only am
giving up .5" of clearance to the 4x4, and traction shouldn't be a problem." So
off we went.
The graded dirt road winds around the mountains in San Diego County, and
eventually up a somewhat rocky, 1-lane, trail up Mount Laguna. On the dirt road I
was having a ball pitching it sideways in the turns (only in areas where I could
see 200+ feet around the corners!), and 3rd gear was the norm... Up the rocky
sections 1st and 2nd...With 1st being a welcome relief on some of the seriously
rutted sections!!! The traction was great with the BFG AT's, and the sure grip
was worth it's weight in GOLD!!! I came upon a Toyota 4x2 that couldn't get past
a diagonally-rutted section (one wheel off the ground spinning)... I got past him
in 1st, then put a motorcycle tie down from my class III to the front of his truck
(frame)... Let the clutch out and ... He was through... Onward!!! Aside from the
seat belts clamping down on us (causing an early pit stop!!), everything was fine.
The trail is about 12-15 miles (coming from 3000' to 5500')If it was muddy, my
truck wouldn't make it... I doubt that a 4x4 could either because the whole trail
would become a deluge of water/mud (I've been up there on my motorcycle when that
happened!! It was GREAT!! ((:^))
Anyway, thought I would pass along another 'Dakota' experience...
BTW "Has anyone heard my WAV files that I sent out??? I was curious what
people thought."
I got KuK's and thought they were wild... My truck doesn't sound like
that!
