About the Mini-Van Transmission's,

My friend's father is a route manager for a major grocery store distributor.
They have a fleet of 95 Dodge Caravans. Nearly Everyone of the vans have
been at the dealer for transmission work. I thought the problem could be
attributed to the vans being over worked. The vans are constly loaded with
boxes, and it is typical to see the back end sagging to the ground. They
pull a hard days work, doing a job that only a Dodge truck can do. Most
of the vans were fixed with a new torque converter, but several of the vans
have been in the shop two and even three times for new transmissions.
Either the vans cannot take the load and are slipping to much or Chrysler
has a serious quality control problem. I have several friends with Chrysler
minivans and I have never heard of any transmission problems from there
family use. My mother had a 94' Dodge Intrepid and the transaxle seemed to
down shift spurradically under medium to hard braking. After a couple of
trips to the dealer and a regular occurance of the problem she finally
decided to trade it in(against my Mopar influence) on a Grand Prix GTP. I
do find it interesting though, that they offered your friend an "after
market transmission", I think that speaks for itself!
