Hey Rick-

Sorry noone has answered you... I've read your posts, and if I knew any
of the answers to your questions, I'd be glad to respond to them... In
the time I've been on the list, sometimes the more technical-related
questions are more difficult to answer by the list members only because
most of us are just Dakota owners, not Mopar wrench jockeys... My Dakota
doesn't even have an automatic transmission, so I'm really no help, but
here goes:

>I am still wondering about the Power Control Module.
>Is this 175.00 price accurate?

I would imagine the price they quoted you is accurate..

>What does it do and is this the possible culprit?

According to your post, all they said was that the Power Control Module
"indicated" a problem, I don't think that means it "is" the problem or it
"caused" the problem...personally, I think it's either something in the
transmission itself, or in the Overdrive circuit (if there is such a
thing)

>Is the Power Control Module the same as the 'Computer'?

I highly doubt it... I'll try to remember to check my FSM at home to see
if it's listed... If you don't have one for your truck, I would highly
recommend buying one... (FSM: Factory Service Manual)

>Can I use a multimeter and probe for error codes myself? (is it a
digital
>code?) or do I need to put the truck on a diagnostic Computer?

No and no... to get the codes, get in your truck and cycle the ignition
key on-off-on-off-on and then leave it on.. the "check engine" light
will go off and then start blinking, count the number of blinks, wait
for a slightly longer pause, then count the blinks again... (example:
code 55 would be blink-blink-blink-blink-blink, pause,
blink-blink-blink-blink-blink).. it will run through all applicable
codes, then give you a 55 (end of codes)...

>Also, Am I damaging anything by driving it in this condition?

Again, I'm not a transmission expert, so I don't know... but since it is
powertrain related, if you're on warranty still, I'd just drive it, and
if it does end up breaking something, hopefully CC (Chrysler Corp. not
credit card) will pick up the bill... Good luck!!!

>Info Update: The Power Control Module had a printout that said
>--> "No ASD Relay Voltage Sensed At the Computer"
>more questions:
>1) Whats ASD?

Again, I have no clue, but I will take a look in my FSM when I get home
later...

>2) Does this make the Computer Bad or the ASD?

Since the computer is the one that generates the codes it probably isn't
at fault... FYI, it's also known as the SBEC.

The only other suggestion I would give you is to maybe take it to a
well-known transmission shop, or another repair facility that you trust,
and have them check it out... Let us know how you make out...

Guys
Pardon me for a moment while I blow off some steam!
WHATS ALL THIS DRIVEL ABOUT RAMETTE or RAMOLA or WHATEVER?
There I'm done.

Now... I posted some questions about transmissions
2 or 3 times and i got 1 response (and it was much appreciated!).
Someone posts something about a NAME to call the Dakota other than
dakota and 100 responses come back! Whats wrong with this picture?

If I've offended anyone -sorry- but I really need info on this
tranny prob. I think i'm in my Bah Humbug Stage, cuz I got an expensive
problem staring me in the face at Christmas (money is tight enough) time.
I realize after this tirade I don't rate a response, but if some one is
feeling 'christmassy'enough to still give this Dakota a helping hand,
(Do it for the dakota man, not for me!) info is all i'm after
Info Update: The Power Control Module had a printout that said
--> "No ASD Relay Voltage Sensed At the Computer"
more questions:
1) Whats ASD?
2) Does this make the Computer Bad or the ASD?
Please forgive my distress its been a bad week!
