4WD on dry pavement

<Everyone I have talked to says "Never drive a truck in 4wd on dry
<pavement". Does anyone know the real reason? The manual says it
<will increase tire wear.

I believe it had to do with driveline bindup. The front & rear diffs are
directly coupled to the transfer case (unlike "full time" 4x4's). If the
front tires are even slightly bigger or smaller then the rears, the diffs
need to turn at different speeds. On the Dakota they can't, so one end ends
up fighting the other. On slick surfaces, the tires can spin to make up the
difference.

       I think. <G>
