In the 25 years I have been driving I have always read that it was bad
practice to let a motor sit and "warm-up". It has always been stated that it
was better to drive the vehicle moderately immediately after starting. I
can't substantiate this but anything I have ever seen written by so called
experts have always stated that.

It likely makes very little difference in the total life expectancy of the
engine so I would not worry about it and do what makes you comfortable.
Personally the only warm up my vehicles get is the time it takes to clean
snow and/or frost from the windows. I have neither the time or inclanation
to let the car sit and idle to the interior is toasty warm.
