Chrysler Extended Service Contracts -Reply

Steve,

In '92, I paid $900 for a 7/100, $25 ded. on my new Dak. In
8/95, I paid $1200 for a 7/100, $50 ded. on a program '95
Ram Wagon. The list price at the 2nd purchase was $1450.
When I made inquiries as to why the price was going up, I
was told that the Big Three were "losing their shirts" on
extended warranties and are scaling back. Hmm.

You CAN deal on the price of these warranties. I went armed
with "cost" and "list" prices from Consumer Reports both
times. That got me the fully loaded Dak LE Club for $16,500,
took me 4 weeks of dealing, topped it with the 7/100 for
$900, and they threw in free window tint, plus, they delivered
the truck to my house.

Don't worry about what the dealer is making...that's his job.
CU's advise was to go 10-13% above cost--or walk!

My suggestion: start at $900. The $100 ded. is ridiculous!
The speed sensor (on my 3rd) isn't $100.

Anyone have the low-down on the real cost of these
contracts? My Dak
should be in soon and so far here's what I could get out of
the
dealer....

7 Year/100,000 = $1360
6 Year/75,000 = $1080
5 Year/75,000 = $1060
4 Year/60,000 = $915

The above is based on a $100.00 deductable per occurance.
I think the
7 year deal should be no more than $400.00....
