Rick:
I'm not about to enter a pissing match with you over the virtures of the 97
Dakota.
My point is, if you're waiting for the **perfect** truck, you are going to
wait for a very long time. The airbag issue is not going to settled for several
years, if ever. There will always be the promise of something better next year.
Regarding side impact bars. The Dakota weighs nearly 4,000 lbs. and has a
frame. I'd
much rather be in it than a Honda Civic whether it meets 1999 standards or not.
The 97 Ford F150 has the shutoff switch and is Motor Trends Truck of the Year.
If you want to pay big bucks ... just look at new 3/4 tons, I did. Dollar
for dollar, compared to
Ford Ranger or Chev S10, the Dakota is a bargain. You can bet it will cost
more in 98.
