My personal opinion is that if you change your oil at 3000-4000 miles
and you don't race, conventional oil is just fine. I also use Castol
GTX, but I've gone to Syntec this winter. My truck sits outside while
my wife's Accord gets the garage. I think that the syntec flows better
when it's cold, and I don't have to worry about changing it until the
spring.

One of the main differences between synthetic and conventional oils is
the lack of sulpher in synthetic oils. Sulpher will make sulfuric acid
when it combines with water. This is a good argument for getting your
engine good and hot at least once a week to burn off the accumlated
water if you use conventional oil.

There is a good reference to motor oil in general at
http://www.vtr.org/maintain/maintain.html
Look under _Drivetrain_ for some information about both conventional
and synthetic oil.
