If I remember correctly (as I also purchased the extended warranty for
my '97) a rental is covered ($30/day) if the vehicle must remain at
the dealer overnight. I think the rental coverage is for 1 week. If
I'm incorrect on this could someone correct me, please.

If I'm right on this, and I think I am, your friend needs to mention
this to the dealer (though I'm sure they must know this already).
When I had mine in for ABS malfuntion diagnosis I inquired about this
and although my dealership had the rentals available, and would cover
it per the extended warranty, they wanted a $50 deposit. While the
$50 is no big deal it was the principle of them keeping my brand new
truck overnight but telling me they needed an additional $50 bucks out
of my pocket. I told 'em no way since the truck still has functioning
brakes...just no ABS. It's a good thing too since I've been waiting
for 6 weeks now for backordered parts. Sorry got to rambling. Have
your buddy talk to the dealer again or find one that will work with
     him.

     Hope this helps.

<snip> but says he will take the truck in for four days to find and fix the
problem. Only thing is, my friend depends on his truck for his business and the
dealer won't authorize a loaner. (Did tell him where he could RENT a vehicle
tho.) The truck is still under warranty and the extended warranty option was
purchased. <snip>

Thanx,
