Funny you should mention this. UPS guy just delivered my 10"
Edelbrock and K&N air filter last night. I of course couldn't wait to
get the thing on so I ran right out, tore out the stupid air box and
dropped in the K&N/Edel combo. I used K&N p/n E-1080. 10" x 2.25"
(actually a Jeep Wrangler appl.) and fits beeyooootiful!. Probably
could have gone a little taller but this appl. already gave more
surface area than the stock panel filter. Stoopid bolt was too short
and in my usual lack of forward thinking I forgot to bring tools with
me to hardware store for a temporary fix...got to get the bent rod on
there also. Played around for an hour (wife was pissed; thought I had
been carjacked or sumthin' :( ).
All said and done....WOW! Truck friggin' flys!! If there truly is a
period that the computer needs to "learn" to use the new airflow I'm
gonna be amazed. By time I got the thing to the main road (about 1/4
mile through our apartment complex) the thing already had a HUGE
improvement. I love that suckin' sound. Reminds me of a set of
secondaries kickin' in.
I wish I'd had time to baseline the truck before doing anything to it.
I'd be suprised if it added any less than 10-15hp. I'm not used to
the one by one bolt on experience. Past experience has been replacing
whole motor or multiple pieces all at once. Best $50 mod I ever did!
Gas mileage is gonna suck for awhile until I get over the initial fun
of it. Aw right, I'm done....I'm soundin' like a six year old at
x-mas.
Oh, by the way Larry (and anyone interested) if you didn't see the
info I posted awhile back here's some appl's I got from John at K&N

I just bought an Edelbrock 1208 10" open chrome filter for my Dakota, but
haven't installed it yet because I want a K&N filter. The stock
replacement K&N is only 9 1/2" OD to fit the inside of the groove on the
stock filter can. Got to get a 10" OD K&N and put in one of Kuk's bent
air cleaner hold downs before I put it on. It'd be nice if it'd stop
raining too, since the garage won't hold the truck : (. BTW got to see
how tall a K&N will fit under the hood with the Edelbrock, which has got a
flat bottom.
