Re: extended cab speakers

I have some 6" subs in the stock locations/holes in the rear of my
extended cab Dakota, it's a 96. The four holes for the screws/bolts
lined up just right for the new round speaker, and I used a peice
of wood as a adaptor plate to compinsate for the oblong hole and round
speaker. You really need to first insure there is enough room for
the magnets and such, and in the 96, there is about 1.5 to 2 inchs of
clearance between the metal mounting location and the plastic interior
pannel, so the addapter plate I fabricated from wood made things work
just fine.

My 6" are really used only as mid bass, since without the proper
enclosure I can not get good low bass out of them. I have a 8" solo baric
mounted in the Drivers side tool compartment that is bellow the back jump
seat. I had to custom build a top for that area and make the volume of the
compartment smaller to get it right for my sub, but I now have a 8" sub
with 180 watts powering it, giving me pretty good sub bass(20-80 hz). The
back jump seats are still fully functional, and the only loss of room to
my cab, is under the front seats where the Rockford Fosgate amps are
located. The 6" subs in the 5x7 holes do pretty good at covering the range
from 80 to 400, then they taper off above that. I have full range JBL
seperates in the front, that do pretty good from about 80-20,000hz. I use
the extended part of my cab as filler and sub bass only. I now have a 40x2
and a 160x4 Rockford Fosgate amps powering the speakers in my truck. It's
not overpowering, but it has pretty good accuracy and almost no distortion
even at full volume because I set the gain on them such that they will
never clip, even at full volume.
