does anyone use the 4wd part of their dakota for anything but snow, boat ramps,
and the occassional sandy spot?

that's really all i've ever used mine for, unfortunately.  4wd costs extra, and
i would like to use it a little, without becoming a jeep person, and having to
spend all kinds of money on winches, special tires, lift kits, paint jobs
(damage repair!), etc.

anyone know any mild trails that could be done in an extended cab 4wd dakota in
the austin, texas area or surrounding areas.  nothing boulder strewn and sheet
metal threatening, just a little casual fun.

thanks,

Howard,  I have a 97 2wd Club Cab Dakota.  Just this last weekend, I took it off roading.  The trail was by no means rugged, but I wouldn't even have dared to bring my friend's 94 Ford Ranger on it.  My Dakota handled it like a charm!!!  I have heard the 4x4 Dakota is an excellent off road vehicle.  In all my research, that was a big selling point for the 4x4.  I would have bought it, but couldn't afford it.  Oh well, maybe my next one will be 4x4.
