Re: Tires

I've always heard you should try to keep the rim width between 70% to
90% of the section width of the tire. A 235 tire has an approx.
section width of 9.25 inches. 70% of that is 6.475. This doesn't
mean you can't exeed these recommendations but these are the optimal
numbers to shoot for. The 235/70's are about a 1/4" taller. I don't
know how much of an effect this would have on the speedo. Braking
should actually improve with more rubber to the pavement. Also
remember to *not* use the sticker on the door as a guide to the rim
width. These figures are simply the minimum approved for your truck's
GVWR. That doesn't mean that your rims *are* bigger....but measure
the rim to be sure. If you measure the outside of the rim be sure to
subtract 1" from your measurement. A rims actual width is from inside
     bead to inside bead.

I'm looking at 255/70's for the rear of my '97 as well. I'll stick
with a set of 235/70's for the front for that slight big-n-little
look. One thing is for sure....the Invicta's have to go!

I have a 93' Sport with originial 215/75 Invicta's on the 15x6 wheels. I've
noticed some of you running 235/70's and even 255/70's. Are the 235/70's
and 255/70's fitting on 15x6 wheel's without any problems? I know that
4x4's in 93 had 235/75's on the same wheels. I may have an opportunity to
pick up a set of 235/70 Eagle LS off of Andy's new 97 (he wants 255/70's !).
I was just concerned about bulging and changing the aspect ratio(wouldn't
235/70's be taller and wider?) and what effects it would have on the
speedometer, braking and other components. Any help would be appreciated!

Oh yeah, just one more question. Are 96' six-spoke aluminum wheels 15x6,
15x6.5 , or 15x7's?

Thanks!
