wheels and tires

& Does anybody have 16" wheels on their truck? I've got a 93 2wd swb,
& and my dad just picked up a set of 16X7" polished aluminum wheels for
& the Dakota from a guy who'd traded in his truck (he got a Toyota and
& told my dad he wasn't happy with his trade at all). Oh yeah, they've
& never been on a vehicle and guess what he picked 'em up for? $100. .
& .for the whole set! (no center caps or lug nuts, though, but who
& cares) I'm running a 235/70 right now, and I would like to keep the
& tire height about the same as I'm running now. I'd also like to go
& with maybe a 245 or 255 series to give me a little better grip in the
& twisties. What do you guys think I should go with? 245/60? 245/50?
& 255/60? 255/50? I'm thinking about MAYBE putting a lower profile

I've been looking around at various wheels and tires. Here's the
problem: I don't want to go to a significantly smaller diameter. I
don't want a real tall sidewall height the gives mush handling. I don't
want a real low sidewall height which limits the load rating. I think
60 series tires are about right. 60 series tires on 15" rims are quite
a bit smaller diameter than stock (about 1" for a 255/60). 60 series
are not available for 16" rims. When you go to 16" rims you get stuck
with 50 series tires and you loose yet another inch of diameter. Go to
17" rims and you can't even get 50 series. I think 255/60-16 would be
ideal, but there is no such size. Perhaps a compromise could be
255/60-15 on front and 275/60-15 in back, but then I can't rotate tires
and the 4 wheel ABS might puke. If do anything it looks like 255/60-15
on all four wheels and live with the lower gearing. There is a Dunlop
GTX "sport truck" tire in 255/55-17, but I don't know if they are any
good, how well they would fit, and that is the ONLY tire in this size.
