Here's the poop on the R/T straight from www.4adodge.com!

     1998 Dodge Dakota R/T
"Taking the Sport Truck to Another Level:
1998 Dodge Dakota R/T is an Enthusiast's Dream"
Chicago, Ill. -- With its agile handling, aggressive looks and Magnum
     V8
power, the 1997 Dodge Dakota sprinted to the front of the compact
     truck
     pack.
The new 1998 Dakota R/T just left that pack in the dust.
     A truck enthusiast's dream, the Dakota R/T combines a 5.9-liter Magnum
     V8 engine with a performance-tuned exhaust and a road-hugging wheel
     and
tire package to make a convincing sport truck statement.
"The key word here is 'fun', no doubt about it," said Bernard
     Robertson,
Vice President and General Manager, Jeepr & Truck Operations. "We had
     a
great foundation to build from in the '97 Dakota, so we decided to see
where we could push some of the limits. The result is a truck that
already over delivered on style, capability and comfort, that now
     gives
you an even more exhilarating ride."
Already the only compact truck with a V8, now Dakota offers two
     engines.
The 5.9-liter engine delivers 250 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of
torque, by far the best in its class. A large-bore, free-flow exhaust
system results in maximum engine output, not to mention providing a
     head-turning exhaust note. A four-speed automatic transmission (46RE)
     is
     standard on the 5.9 V8.
R/T suspension tuning, including front and rear stabilizer bars
     provide
the driver with controlled handling, while P255/65R15 tires (on the
     4x2
version, 31x10.5 on 4x4) help glue Dakota R/T to the road.
The Dakota R/T will be available in three bodystyles: 4x2 Regular Cab,
4x2 Club Cab and 4x4 Club Cab. Both the 4x2 and 4x4 versions are
     equipped with a traction-maximizing limited-slip, antispin
     differential.

"One of the things we were most proud of on the '97 Dakota was the way
we were able to build in car-like handling capabilities while still
retaining all the functional truck attributes," Robertson said. "The
changes we made to the R/T make this truck even more responsive
     without
     a single sacrifice of capability.
     "This isn't overkill, it's over-deliver. And that's a hallmark of
     Chrysler."
The 1998 Dakota R/T will go on sale in the Fall of 1997.
