Ryan,
I would be surprised if the dealer would be willing to install the
overhead console. I suspect most of the wiring is in place, as the
console trip computer requires inputs from several remote sensors. Most
of these it picks up from the data bus network, or in Chrysler speak,
CCD, (Chrysler Collision Detection). It also takes an input from an
ambient temperature sensor located behind the grill, just to the left of
the right headlight. I suspect the wiring is here, the sensor may not be
unless it is used for other functions. Compass calibration may prove to
be dificult for the dealer, and may require demagnitizing the roof area.
If you do get it installed, do not use magnetic antenna mounts, or allow
the dealer to place magnetic service cones on your roof.
Bottom line is that it is certainly do able for someone that knows what
they are doing, however I suspect the dealer has not done this before,
and they would be learning on your truck. You may be better off buying
the pieces and doing it yourself.
I ordered my truck with the console, part of the "Power
Overhead/Convience Package which included the overhead console, power
windows and locks, keyless remote entry, and auto day/night mirror. List
price on that group was $771. I do not know what the price for the
overhead only would be.
I have only taken my truck back to the dealer once, for an oil change,
and also asked them to change the oil in the transmission (NV3500), and
the anti spin differential. In spite of me giving them the Chrysler part
number for the transmission lubricant, they still put in the worng type.
I have not returned to them. They just take up my time and energy and I
wind up needing to redo most of what they have done. Good luck to you!
