I agree with your logic (ignore brand loyalty and buy the best vehicle out
there). I came at this from a different perspective.
I have owned my '68 Camaro for a few years now and I love working on it. From
talking with the Chebby guys on the internet, I have a deep appreciation for
some of the finer vehicles that The General has built. So when I decided to buy
a truck, my first choice was to look at the Chevy web page. Ugghhhh! No good
trucks there. I looked and looked but could not find a decent truck from GM.
Then I thought about the three Dakotas (and one Ram and one Prospector) that
have been in my family. They were all great trucks. I went against my brand
loyalty (to Chevy) and ordered the Dakota.
I am very happy with it. :^)
If Chevy ever comes up with a serious competitor for the Dakota, I'll look at
buying it. But for now, the Dakota rules its market.
