You can actually pickup the Paxton supercharger for around $2800 if you
look for deals... I found a place on the Internet that specializes on 5.0
Mustangs, and
they had the Dakota 5.2L kits for $2800 and up... My model being around
$3000....

If I really wanted to spend $3000, I'd pull the 318, Do the entire engine
'RIGHT', and probably pull another 100 hp without the nitrous or
supercharger...
Bump up the compression, lighten the flywheel, port/polished intake/exhaust
manifold, SS TBI, etc...
Funny thing is, speed costs lots of $$$... Example:
My '89 Jetski ran 34 mph stock... I installed SS prop ($175), redid the
carb with tapper bore, needle & seat ($155), bored the nozzle on the pump
($55), milled the head (185 psi vs. 125 psi), stage II porting/polish
($150),
Coffman performance exhaust/waterbox ($295).... More than $900 with tax...
New top speed = 44 mph.. a 10 mph increase... Doesn't seem like much, but
on the water that's a lot...
Back to Dakota... Stock 5.2L 5 speed posts a 1/4 mi @ 16.4 seconds
@ 85 mph from a magazine review a while back... I did the exhaust, intake
(K&N)
and headers/computer... 0.95 seconds faster in the 1/4 mi, and 7 mph....
Cost?
$1200 bucks... Again, it doesn't seem like much, but it FEELS a like a
lot...
People 1 second faster are about $1000 poorer than me :P !!!
