I too can vouch for the K&N performance boost. I have a 97 V6 that I've
just installed a K&N 9" x 2" chrome kit, (# 60-1110). Have only been
running it for a day and a half now, but you can feel the difference. I
went with the 9" cause on the V6 I didn't think a 10" would have fit. And,
as K&N only make the 9" in a 2" or 2 3/4" height, I chose the 2" as the 2
3/4 is too high to close the hood, (trust me on that one). As it is now
with the 9", I have just under an inch clearance between the air cleaner
and the firewall. If you do the math though, this gives me 9.4 square
inches of filter surface area per cylinder as compared to the 10" x 2.25"
on the V8 which is 8.8 square inches per cylinder. I did have to fabricate
the "S" hold down bolt and switch the 97 breather system to a chrome one
with a larger diameter hose.

I can vouch for the K&N upgrade. I also got the Edelbrock 10" with the K&N
filter and the sound
is awesome when you put your foot into it...especially when your
accelerating on the freeway!
Its almost scary, the sound that is!!
