Sounds like it might be the vehicle speed/distance sensor that's on the
transmission except that the engine will start and run fine with a bad
one, it'll just die when you come to a stop. It just signals the engine
that the truck is still moving and to keep the engine running.

Have you checked your fault codes? Ignition switch on, off, on, off, on
then watch "check engine" light for sets of blinks. A 15 (one blink,
pause, five blinks) is a "no vehicle speed signal" code, a 55 is end of
codes. A carboned up AIS motor won't give a fault code.
