Attention Shelby owners

I thought I'd bring to your attention an event of interest to any fan
of Carroll Shelby and his creations.

The Monterey Historic Automobile Races (24th Annual) will honor Carroll
Shelby and the Cobra as Featured Marque this year. [Porsche next year]
The races are held at the historic Laguna Seca Raceway, southeast of
Monterey, CA. Hotel rooms will be hard to come by at this late date,
but camping is available at the raceway park. Dates: Aug 15,16,17.
Prices (advance ticket prices good through 8/8/97):Flagroom $150;
Three-day Super $75; Two-day (Sat-Sun) Super $50; Fri only $25;
Sat or Sun only $30. Camping $25 ($40 at the gate). RV sites are $150,
if they're still available.

Order by phone: (800) 327-SECA, or (408) 648-5100. FAX (408) 373-0533.
There's a Web page with more info at www.laguna-seca.com

The normal drill is to watch the owners shake down their cars (and have
a blast driving on laguna seca) on Friday. Actual racing starts Saturday,
and wraps up Sunday afternoon with the last class being Indy and F1 cars.
The nicest cars will be at the track Saturday. Sunday many of these
will be at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance held at the Lodge at
Pebble Beach (for exorbitant amounts of money). Car watching opportunities
abound all weekend long in Monterey.

I'm certain the Shelby Club will have a parade lap. They may restrict this
just to Cobras, but I think that would be unfair. I would certainly
like to see a Shelby Dakota out there!

If anyone is thinking about going, contact me. I've gone nearly every
year of the past nine, and plan to again this year. I know of some great
restaurants in the area, as well as a few places you might try to get
a hotel room.

Jim
