} The noises include a clutch chatter (or whirring noise) in between shifts, a
} bearing noise in neutral which decreases in intensity when the clutch is
} depressed, and (this is a hard one to describe) a loud drivetrain noise at
} highway speeds that seems to emanate from the transmission/clutch area.
Clattering noises in neutral with the clutch out are normal. Mine does
it and so to many others who have talked about it here. The
transmission makes a fair amount of gear noise in 1-3rd gears, but I
notice it around town, not on the highway. 5th seems pretty quiet.
4th is 1:1 (no gears), so it better be damned quiet.
Wirring noises when the clutch is depressed sound like a throwout
bearing or synchros spinning up when downshifting.
Somebody else mentioned checking the transmission alignment and that
sounds like a good idea. Have to driven some other units to compare the
noises? If not go for a test drive.
