RE: Subwoofer Update

There are so many amps and sizes, and buttons . . .

Typically the bigger the amp (physically) the more you are going to get out
of it. There are plenty of good small amps, they simply won't be able to
dissipate the heat as well as a larger amp. I have a clarion 50x4 under
the driver's seat for mids and tweeters. Then a SoundStream for the subs
mounted under the rear seat. With a lot of patience and lifting of the
seat, I was able to fit the amp under the driver's seat. Forget the
passenger seat as it has the mechanism for the slide.

Always (ALWAYS) run dedicated fused power from the battery. Never use the
power from the wire harness to run the amp.

If I remember right, you mentioned JL speakers. I forget the size. But
there are plenty of amps that will fit the bill. I personally would
measure around and see how physically big you can go, then determine what
you want to buy. I'd personally look at (but not limit yourself) MTX,
Clarion, SoundStream, Alpine, so on. If you are not running a cross-over
to limit the frequency of the subs to a particular band range, then look
for an amp with a built-in crossover. Kenwood has a 120x1 mono sub amp
that will take line level or speaker level, and has a built-in cross-over.
It's a good amp for the beginner to subwoofers as it's very versatile. It
should fit under the seat, but measure to make sure.

Subject: Subwoofer Update

I put the first side together today. It turned out great. I used screws
and liquid nails and it is as solid as can be dispite the angled slightly
imperfect :.> joints. I'm taking pictures of every step and will post a
web page of the construction.

Where has everyone put thier amps? I'm thinkn under the drivers seat if
room, or mabey behind the trim/cushion in the rear/side of the club cab??
I know several people on the list have thier amps behind the trim... I've
never owned car amp... do you need to get at it for adjustments, or once
you set it up can you just leave it alone? It seems like a pain to get at
the amp if you want to play around with it if its behind the trim.

Ok if i put it behind the trim in the rear of the cab i guess i need to
know how to get the trim off. Are there any tricks to removing the rear
trim in the club cab.

Thanks
mm
