In a message dated 97-08-12 16:55:06 EDT, you write:

<< Recently bought a 92 Dakota 4x4, 5.2 auto, 60K miles. Runs real well, but
oil consumption
seems to be excessive (about a quart for 500-600 miles). I hope that's not
normal
for this vehicle. Any thoughts out there? >>

Brand changes can cause this. I used Valvoline one time when I couldn't get
Castrol and don't like to change brands but at about 20,000 I pulled the
valve cover to adjust the valves and found everything coated with a varnish
like substance (my thoughts was parafin) and I didn't like it so I switch to
Pennzoil (still couldn't get Castrol) and the Pennzoil cleaned the thing up
but I went from not using oil in 4000 miles to using a quart in about 1000.
Certain brand changes will raise hell.

The other thing would be to pull the plugs and see what they look like.

Hope this helps
Bill
