Ouch!
I gave up on waiting for the headers and had my Gibson 3" in/Dual 2.5" out
installed today. My original intent was to install the headers and exhaust
together so I can have all the pipes welded at once. So instead, I went
ahead w/ the muffler and pipes first. I had dual Mandrel bend pipes
exiting the passenger side. No chrome tips, no fancy jazz. Just a
conservative looks and a great deep rumble. It's much quieter when I get
on it than at idle or slightly above idle driving at 25 mph. This seems to
be the opposite of the FlowMaster. I need to get more time with her to see
how she sounds. The startup sounds like a mighty giant waking up from a
nap.
From all the FlowMasters I have listened too, including going to the
Flowmaster Headquarters, I have to say I'm happy w/ my Gibson. She's
deeper and doesn't bark. Not to say the bark is bad, it's just not what
I'm looking for.
There seems to me no noticeable noise at highway speeds. With the windows
open, the wind is much noisier than the exhaust. Even when I get on her, I
barely hear it over the wind. With the windows closed, I can hear a little
more of the deep resonation, but it's not bothersome. I so seldom drive
without the tunes, I doubt I'll ever her it from the inside of the cab.
The shop charge me $175 for the dual custom mandrel bent pipes, the one 3"
pipe of that cat, and the labor for the muffler. The muffler cost $99 mail
order from Truck Performance.
Now I need my headers.
