I have to disagree with your last statement. I have gotten to the
finishline before the other guy and LOST. It sucked but, your reaction
time, and consistency plays a lot bigger role than getting to the finish
line first. If that were the case everyone would dial there vehicles
slower than the opponent then when the lights come down they would get to
leave first and wallah, get to the finish line first.
