Well, the additional cooler for the trans isn't going to decrease
reliability that much, because there's not a whole lot to go wrong with
it, the three main problems you have with a cooler are 1) damage from road
objects, which is no problem if you have it behind the radiator because
the radiator's gonna take the impact, 2) rusting out, which isn't really a
problem since it is trans fluid (Which has rust inhibitors), and not
coolant, so that just leaves 3) a hose bursting, which if you have high
quality pressure hoses isn't a problem, so I don't think it reduces
reliability enough to worry about, and by reducing heat which is as you
say is destructive, actually makes them more reliable... Oh so you gotta
take 5 minutes every couple of weeks/months to check condition of fIuid,
big deal, if you care anything about your truck you'll be checking your
oil at least that often, and it only takes an extra second to check the
trans fluid.. And I doubt the standard is gonna last much longer than the
auto if you run them both low on fluid.
