What do you mean?? Sure they are.. All of the police force is driving
them!! LOL... (Here in San Diego, a lot of the cars stolen here end up in
Mexico..
and the news broke the story that a lot of the cars/trucks are being driven
by
the Mexico police.. hmmm)

        1) Buy Mexican Insurance, and depending on how far into mexico,
get a Tourist Card, Pass Port, whatever they call it.

        2) Bring your own drinking water (you'll thank me later)

        3) Bring the additive that removes water from your fuel tank
(the local's fuel tends to have water in it)

        4) Bring a few bottles of octane boost
(The fuel is usually poor quality, low octane...at the
Pemex- government owned gas stations) I believe the
SIN is the correct fuel (talk to your Mex. insurance agent,
usually near your border crossing, they have a pamphet
             with the current info.)

        5) Bring small bills... Mexican's don't make change... $50's and
             $100's don't go over too well (unless it's a $100 item!)

        6) Bring a couple cans of flat fixer (just in case)

        7) Brush up on your Spanish... The farther away from the
Border, the less people speak English... Also, the
people are more likely to help you if you try to speak
Spanish (they're not stupid by any means!)

        8) Speed limits are in Kilometers... so 120 is not 120 mph!,
            but 120km (about 72 mph?)

        9) Cell phone might work, inquire with your Carrier on how to
            use in Mexico.
        10) Don't bring a firearm... You'll be in with Pepe' Rodriquez
              singing 'Yepe Yepe'... LOL
        12) Don't drive at night (if at all possible)

        13) Watch on rural roads... The people tend to drive right in
              the middle of the road.
        14) If the road sign says it's a 25 turn (it's a 25 Km turn!! and
               they mean it!)

        15) Have a good time...

My friend did a 2500 mile trip down Baja last summer ('96). Drove
from San Diego, to La Paz... Hit all of the surfing spots, did 2-3 days of
fishing
with the locals (catching Dorrado, etc.)... Slept on the beach, in his
truck,
in a small shack on the beach (like Gilligan's Island!)... Bought gas
wherever it
was available (even if he had 3/4 tanks showing!)... Sometimes would get
it out
of a 50 gallon drum by hand, so don't be suprised.

        Hope this info. helps!
