Got my Dak

.... picked it up yesterday afternoon, 14km on the odometer, after having
been driven by the dealership's GM, who "wanted to compare it with the
auto". '98 318 4x4 CC 5spd Sport+, with limited slip.

First thoughts: I still think the decal color (jade) looks bad on the truck
(emerald). I ordered a set of reflective rear decals (from the SLT) for $50.
For the side decals (no reflectives available), a friend of mine does vinyl
signage, and has agreed to reproduce the "Dakota Sport" decals on the doors
in white (or tan, or silver) for a nominal fee.

This is my first pickup, and I was surprised by how much things slide around
if left in the back. I'm getting a spray-in liner today, that should help.

Insurance was good compared to my '92 Golf... paid more for comprhensive
(obviously), but liability went down. Very nice.

Inadequate paper on the floors (it didn't come with mats, of course), and it
was snowing when I picked it up. I had to go buy a newspaper to avoid muddying
up the carpet. I have mats now, but they're not a good fit -- some custom mats
would be great.

The rear end breaks loose way too easily, I'm planning to put some weight back
there to stop that.

Overall, I think the truck is just great. I drove >300km yesterday, managed
to put the first scratches on the skid plate, and did some excellent turning
circle tests in an empty gravel lot. Highly satisfactory. :-)

cheers,
mike
