My turn:
It rained here yesterday in San Diego (first county wide rain storm this
year
I think), and when the first rain comes the fwys/roads are slick as ice.
With my new
255-60-15's the rear end was little less prone to wheel spin than my
215-75's, but I was
still able to break them loose at 55 mph (3rd gear on a fwy onramp)... The
biggest
improvement was in breaking... Before I could lock up the fronts (RABS only
here) with
my 215's, but when I tried a hard stop (in my parking lot at work), the ABS
was felt
working in the pedal, but I had 100% steering (didn't lock or slide the
fronts). So that
was a plus.
I did have the opportunity to drive through a few muddy lots getting to a
few
job sights... These were places that all of the 1-leg Toyota trucks were
parked on
the street (because at one site a guy in a 4x2 Ranger was stuck-- right
tire 1/2 way
down into the mud). I drove right in, sloshed through the muck, and got
where I needed
to go. I did have tire spin, but 2nd gear and 1/2 throttle moved me in
without any
fuss. Getting out was a worry at first (because we had just gotten about
1/4" of rain
in 1/2 hour)... Again no problems... Just about 1/4 yard of mudd on the
top of my
shell :P I had to spin 'em ! Once on the road I was throwing mud for
about a mile.
Limited slip is a necessity for me without a doubt.
