Fault Codes

Hi all,
This message mainly concerns '97 owners (possibly '98 owners). I just got
back from a trip to the local post office in my Dak. I noticed on the trip
that the engine sounded a little funny when I laid into it. So, when I got
back I checked my fault codes, just to make sure everything was okay. I
did the on-off-on-off-on sequence and came up with a code 12 (which I think
means power lost to the computer). But it never showed any more codes. It
just stayed on the 12. Do I have to toggle somehow to the next code or is
it supposed to cycle through them itself. It was my understand that it
would show all codes and then show a 55 which signaled the end of the fault
code test. Can anyone help me with this?
